Frequently Asked Questions

How does coaching and personal consulting actually happen?

Sessions occur over the telephone, not face-to-face in an office. Personal consulting gets arranged via email or over the phone. We agree on a time that’s good for both of us and the client makes the call. Other than special, unforeseen circumstances, email is not used for the work itself.

Coaching is also a telephone service, but is ongoing, usually occurs at a regular interval (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly), is goal-oriented, and sometimes email is used to communicate about progress, unanticipated situations, or convey important information about an ongoing effort.

How much does it cost?

Some of my colleagues offer a free initial consultation. I’ve chosen not to do that.  Instead, I've developed an initial service model I call “90 for 90.”  That’s 90 minutes of telephone consultation for $90 - affordable for almost anyone. There is absolutely no sales pitch beyond that.

My usual fee is $125/hour, but that may be negotiable.

How does payment work? Do you take Visa? How about PayPal?

The client pays in advance, usually monthly. Yes, I take Visa through PayPal.

Will my insurance cover your service?

No, I'm afraid not.  This is online consulting, not psychotherapy.

What if I really need therapy instead of coaching?

I’ll tell you the truth, if that’s what I think – and I’ll help you find a therapist. I’ve had many years of experience providing assessments, and referring people to counselors and psychotherapists.

Can we go beyond “one time only?”

Certainly!  There is no fixed frequency for working with me.  “90 for 90” is my innovative approach to folks who just want to talk one time only, or to just get a taste for this type of service.  What I’m trying to avoid is combining the initial consultation with a pitch for you to commit to more services.  I do have clients who meet with me weekly on the telephone, but I have others who do it on an as-needed basis.  The client is in the driver’s seat.

Are our sessions confidential?

Of course.
